How to Configure Motion Detection in COVA
This article will outline how to open motion detection settings, enable and configure sensitivity, draw detection zones, and save your settings.
Supported/Affected Devices:
- DW-COVA4 / DW-COVA8 / DW-COVA16
Resolution:
Tip: It is recommended to enable motion detection on all cameras before configuring your recording schedule.
Part 1 — Open Motion Detection Settings
- Navigate to Settings → Camera → Motion.
- Select a camera from the camera list.
Tip: On some camera models, motion zone controls (All, Reverse, Clear) must be configured from the camera’s own web page. If these buttons are grayed out, click Web to access the camera’s web client.
Part 2 — Enable and Configure Motion Detection
- Enable Motion Detection for the selected camera.
- Adjust the Sensitivity slider to set how responsive the camera is to motion.
Note: Higher sensitivity values detect more subtle movement. Adjust based on your environment — background color and lighting conditions (day vs. night) can affect detection accuracy.
Part 3 — Draw the Motion Detection Zone
- Click and drag across the camera preview to define the motion detection area.
- Use the zone controls as needed:
- All — sets the entire camera image as the motion area
- Reverse — swaps the motion and non-motion regions
- Clear — removes all motion zones
Part 4 — Save Settings
- Click OK to save.
- Verify the success confirmation message and click OK.
