Local Console Password Reset
The myDW Admin Unlock Utility generates a temporary, one-time password (OTP) that allows a Channel Partner or End User to regain local console access to a supported DW recorder through an Administrator account.
This utility is intended for emergency access only when the admin password has been forgotten. The OTP is generated using the recorder’s MAC address and current system date, both of which must be retrieved directly from the recorder’s local console.
Supported/Affected Devices:
- DW COVA Recorder Series
- DW VMAX Recorder Series
- DW Encoder Series (support coming soon)
- DW-ENC4K16
Before you Begin
Prerequisites
Before beginning this procedure, ensure the following:
- You have an active myDW account with access to the Utilities menu.
- You have physical access to the recorder.
- A monitor and mouse are connected directly to the recorder (local console access is required).
- The recorder is powered on and displays the login screen.
Important Notes
- The Admin Unlock Utility only works at the local console. Remote access is not supported.
- OTPs are single-use and time-sensitive.
- All OTP characters are case sensitive.
- If the entered MAX address or date does not match the recorder exactly, the OTP generation will fail.
Generating a Temporary Admin Password
Accessing the Admin Unlock Utility in myDW
- Using a web browser, access the myDW Web Portal and log in to your myDW account.
- In the top-right corner, click on your profile and select “Help” from the drop-down menu.
- Navigate to the Utilities tab then click the “Admin Unlock” tile.
NOTE: If the browser window is minimized or collapsed, expand it to ensure all menu options are visible.
General OTP Generation Workflow
The one-time password (OTP) generation process requires information displayed on the recorder’s local console. Steps vary by device type and are defined in the Device Specific Instructions section below.
- At the recorder, retrieve the MAC Address and current system date.
- In the myDW Web Portal:
- Select the appropriate Device Type.
- Enter the recorders MAC Address and Date exactly as shown.
- Click “Generate OTP”.
- Copy the generated OTP exactly as displayed (case sensitive).
- Enter the OTP at the recorder’s local console.
- When prompted, create a new Admin password.
Device Specific Instructions
COVA Recorder Series
The Admin Unlock process is identical across all supported COVA Models.
Supported Models
- N0A (16-Channel)
- N0Z (8-Channel / 4-Channel)
- D1E (ENC4K16 – support coming soon)
To generate a one-time password for a COVA recorder:
- At the COVA recorder’s local console login screen, click “Retrieve Password”.
- In the Retrieve Password window, copy the COVA recorder’s MAC Address and Current Date/Time settings.
- Return to the myDW and enter the matching information in the Admin Unlock window, then click “Generate OTP”.
- Copy the generated one-time password (OTP) and enter it into the Dynamic Password field on the COVA recorder.
- Upon successful validation, the COVA recorder will prompt you to create a new Admin password.
Enter and confirm the new password to complete the reset.
VMAX G4 Recorder Series (A1|IP)
To generate a one-time password for a VMAX G4 recorder:
- In myDW, select “VMAX” as the device type.
- At the VMAX recorder’s local login screen, perform the following:
- Enter “admin” in the User field.
- Enter “masterpwd” in the Password field.
Click the OK button when finished.
- When authenticated, the Emergency Password Recovery window will display.
Copy the MAC Address and Date displayed onscreen.
- In the myDW Web Portal, enter the same MAC Address and Recorder Date into the Admin Unlock window, then click “Generate OTP”.
- Copy the generated one-time password (OTP) from myDW.
- On the VMAX recorder, click the OK button to return to the Login screen.
Enter the OTP exactly as displayed in myDW.
- When prompted, create and confirm a new Admin password.
- The recorder will confirm that the password has been changed, completing the password recovery process.
