DW Spectrum Professional
to
DW Spectrum Enterprise
Upgrade Guide
Audience and Scope
The DW Spectrum Enterprise service is used to manage Sub-Channel Partners, Organizations, and available Subscription services through the DW Connect Web Portal. The DW Connect Portal does not provide access to any Site devices, video data, or VMS settings. However, the provision of preventative overhead and operational security offers redundancy and preparation for avoidable loss of security operations.
The following guide will provide the reader with instructions for preparing and initiating the transfer of ownership process, organization sign-up, and the process of upgrading from DW Spectrum Professional to DW Spectrum Enterprise (VSaaS) tier services.
Key Concepts
The DW Spectrum Enterprise Edition introduces a new hierarchal structure that enables optimized configuration controls and new accounting models that increase operating margins and reduce management overhead.
Channel Partners
The primary Channel Partner resides at the top of a reseller hierarchy. Additional Sub-Channel Partners and Organizations are created to resell or consume Subscription Services. The Sub-Channel Partner concept can expand into multiple levels/tiers, with each Sub-Channel Partner assuming responsibility for their End Users and their primary partner for all costs incurred by their downstream Organization and recording sites.
Organizations
Organizations are created by Channel Partners and Sub-Channel Partners through the DW Connect Portal. An “Organization” can contain an unlimited number of DW Spectrum Sites (previously known as “Systems”).
While Channel Partners and Sub-Channel Partners can set the monetary cost for all Subscription Services that are available to their Organization(s), it is only the Organization Administrator who can use the DW Cloud Portal (not the DW Connect Portal) to configure the Organization structure, manage Organization-level users, and grant Channel Partners access to the Organization.
See the DW Connect User Guide for additional information on managing a DW Spectrum Enterprise Organization.
Sites and Systems
A “Site” is one or more servers treated as a video management system installation. This includes the entire collection of a location’s recording servers, security cameras, and I/O devices that are linked to local installations of the DW Spectrum Professional software. The term “Site” has replaced the term “System”, which has previously been used by Digital Watchdog to reference a collection of servers.
Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS)
DW Spectrum Enterprise is a Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) management solution for the Managed Service Provider (MSP). The platform is designed for intelligent video and data management, presented through an online user interface. DW Spectrum Enterprise enables System Administrators to manage users, workstations, servers, and network devices remotely, through a unified, cloud-optimized dashboard.
Upgrading to DW Spectrum Enterprise
Option 1: Transferring Ownership of an Existing Professional Site
When upgrading to DW Spectrum Enterprise, the existing DW Spectrum Professional Site should be connected to a DW Cloud account.
For a Site that is not connected to any DW Cloud account, the local Site Administrator must create an account and complete the DW Cloud signup process. (For more information, see the Option 2 – Upgrading a non-DW Cloud Site section below.)
A transfer of ownership will take place between the Site’s “Cloud Owner” and the Organization Administrator or Channel Partner.
NOTE: Ensure that an Organization has been created and is available to receive the transfer prior to beginning this process. This could look like joining a Channel Partner’s existing Organization or creating a new Organization yourself.
To begin the upgrade process:
- Check the DW Cloud connection. If the DW Spectrum Professional Site is already connected to the DW Cloud service, use a web browser to visit the DW Cloud Portal (https://dwspectrum.digital-watchdog.com/).
-
Log in to the Site’s DW Cloud Owner account and access the Site.
In the Dashboard, select “My Sites” and select the Site that you want to upgrade.
-
Initiate the Ownership Transfer process.
Below the Site name, click the “change” link that appears beside “Owner”.
- The Transfer Ownership window will open. Select the “To Organization” option.
NOTE: Selecting “To User” will transfer ownership of the Site to another user without upgrading to Enterprise.
-
Use the drop-down to select the recipient Organization to which the Site will be attached. Click the “Transfer” button to proceed.
If your Organization does not appear in the list, you will need to create a new Organization in DW Connect.
- Enter your DW Cloud account login credentials. If Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is enabled for the Site, enter the verification code and wait for confirmation of transfer.
- Once the Site has been added to the Organization, the Site will appear in the Organization tab of the DW Cloud portal. You can organize the Site into folders and/or into a desired location.
- All Cloud Users and Local Users from the Professional Site will be retained.
- Subscription Licenses can be added for the upgraded Site through the DW Connect Portal.
Option 2: Upgrading a non-DW Cloud Site
For DW Spectrum Professional Sites that are not connected to DW Cloud (Local Site only), the Local Administrator must have a DW Cloud account before it can be upgraded to the Enterprise tier. A transfer of ownership will take place between the Site’s “Cloud Owner” and the Organization Administrator or Channel Partner.
To upgrade to Enterprise:
- Open the DW Spectrum Client desktop software and log in as the Local Administrator (admin).
-
Open the Site Administration menu and select the DW Cloud tab.
Click on “Connect Site to DW Cloud”.
- Log in using your DW Cloud credentials. After logging in to the DW Cloud service, a prompt will display to connect the Site to one of two options:
- My Account: selecting this option will keep the Site at the Professional tier.
- Organizations: selecting this option will allow you to upgrade the Site to the Enterprise tier.
Click the “Organizations” tile and select your desired Organization. If your Organization does not appear in the list, you will need to create a new Organization in DW Connect.
- Confirm the Local Admin credentials then click “Connect” to complete the process.
- You will receive a confirmation that the Site was successfully connected to DW Cloud.
Your Site will appear in the Organization tab of the DW Cloud portal. You can organize the Site into folders and/or into a desired location.
- All Local Users from the Professional Site will be retained.
- Subscription Licenses can be added for the upgraded Site through the DW Connect Portal.
