Maps Feature

The Maps feature in DW Spectrum provides users with the means to insert map graphics with the intention of creating a surveillance layout that coincides with camera locations of a building/facility.

This article will outline how to install and integrate DW Map with the desktop client and how to use the DW Map feature.

NOTE: The DW Maps feature is only available for DW Spectrum Enterprise Organizations. DW Professional Sites can be upgraded to Enterprise tier by

Add an Integration (DW Spectrum Client)
In the DW Spectrum Client application, open the Main Menu ( ).
Select Add > Integration from the context menu.

Enter the DW Maps URL in the URL text field (https://maps.digital-watchdog.com).
Assign a name for the integration (e.g., “Maps”) then click the OK button.

To allow authentication for the integration, enable the “Do not show the message again” checkbox, then click “Allow”.
To open DW Maps, expand the Integrations vertical menu in the Resource Tree and double-click on the Maps integration or drag-and-drop it into the viewing area.

Part 2: Adding DW Maps

Creating a Map from PDF or Image File

When adding a map to the Site, users can upload a PDF or image file as a background for the map.

Open the DW Maps integration and click “Create”.

Select either “From PDF” or “From Image”, depending on the file type, then select and open the background image file in the client.

To assign and place cameras, click the Add (+) icons to activate a camera. You can click and drag the background image to adjust its position.

Define the camera’s direction, field of view (FoV), and viewing distance with the controls at the bottom of the window.

To change the color of the FoV arc, use the color palette in the bottom-right of the window.

When finished, assign a name in the “Map Name” field and click the Save button.

Creating a Map from Map Data

When adding a map to the Site, users can upload a PDF or image file as a background for the map.

Open the DW Maps integration and click “Create”.
Select “From Map”.

Enter the address of the Site location in the search box.

You can adjust the appearance of the map using the toolbar in the top-right of the window including:

Zoom In & Out of the map
- Alternatively, you can use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out
Reset the window orientation to North (top of window will face North)
- Click-and-drag to move around the map. Right-click to change the orientation and angle of the map.
3D View – displays 3D modeling of buildings
Streets View – shows a flat map to clearly show streets.
Satellite View – shows a flat satellite image of the location
Traffic – shows status of traffic flow on streets
Information – displays location and building names (park names, businesses, etc.)
Night Mode – displays the map with a dark theme for eye comfort purposes.

To assign and place cameras, click the Add (+) icons to activate a camera. You can click and drag the background image to adjust its position.
