Subscription Management
Upon the release of DW Spectrum Enterprise and the myDW Health Monitoring Service, Digital Watchdog adopted a subscription-based model to support DW Channel Partners with the implementation and management of service subscriptions.
This article will outline and define the Co-Termination model, benefits, and provide examples to help users better understand the DW Subscription model.

Defining Co-Termination
“Co-Termination” (aka ‘Co-Term’), refers to adjusting the subscription validity window by combining new subscriptions with an existing subscription, to unify and renew services into a single expiration date. This means that if an account has multiple subscriptions that were purchased and activated at differing times, they will be bundled together to share the same renewal date, rather than all subscriptions being due for renewal at various times.

Benefits of Co-Termination
The implementation of Co-Termination simplifies the subscription renewal process and billing cycle by making it more efficient. Co-terming reduces the risk of subscriptions unexpectedly expiring, especially for End Users who struggle with monitoring monthly subscriptions, which could otherwise negatively impact daily operations and prevent users from accessing data.
Because Co-Termination converts all subscriptions into a single contract, administrative resources can be saved unnecessary time and effort.
Examples of Co-Termination
The Co-Termination date is a weighted average of the licenses purchased and activated by an Organization.
Example A (Simultaneous Activation) – Multiple subscriptions have been purchased for an End User (EU) Organization. After receiving the subscription keys, the EU Organization activates three (3) licenses at the same time:
- Two (2) single-channel subscription keys, valid for 12 months.
- One (1) single-channel subscription key, valid for 36 months.
The Co-Termination value would be calculated and average out to a Co-Term date 20 months from the day of activation.
Example B (Staggered Activation) – Multiple subscriptions have been purchased for an End User (EU) Organization. After receiving the subscription keys, the EU Organization activates three (3) licenses at different times:
- Two (2) single-channel subscription keys, valid for 12 months.
- Both activated first, at the same time.
- One (1) single-channel subscription key, valid for 36 months.
- Activated later after one year.
The Co-Termination value would be calculated and average out to a Co-Term date where all three (3) licenses will expire in 16 months.
Perpetual License Conversion
You may be asking yourself, “I have already purchased and implemented perpetual recording licenses to my DW Spectrum Professional setup. What will happen to my licenses?”
It depends. Co-Termination is implemented for both the myDW Health Monitoring Service and for DW Spectrum Enterprise. There are major differences between either platform, primarily around the intended purpose of each program.
- myDW – Uses myDW Standard Subscription and myDW Cloud Storage keys. These keys serve a different purpose than a DW Spectrum Professional recording license. As such, no license key conversion is required.
- DW Spectrum Enterprise – Upon upgrading from a DW Spectrum Professional tier to a DW Spectrum Enterprise tier, recording licenses are converted into 24-month subscription credits when a site is added to a DW Spectrum Enterprise Organization. This change cannot be reversed.
