Counters

The MEGApix IVA/IVA+ camera’s Counters feature can be configured to tally when objects trigger a Counting Line analytic rule.  This feature can be useful for keeping track of room capacity or for monitoring traffic.

This article will outline how to create a Counter using the camera’s IVA analytic options.

**NOTE:  For a Counter to work, a Counting Line rule must be created first so that it can be used as an input.

**NOTE:  To be able to view a Counter in the secondary stream of the camera, Annotations must be enabled in the IVA settings.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • MEGApix® IVA/IVA+™ Camera Series

Creating a Counter

To create a Counter:

  1. From the camera’s Web Client, click the Setup button to enter the Configuration menu.

  1. Select IVA from the menu, then select the Rules menu.

From the Rules men, make sure that the Counting Lining rule is created.  If you intend for the Counter to also subtract from its tally, create a second Counting Line rule for exit tracking.

  1. Next, select the Counters menu.

Under Name, enter a label for the Counter.

From the Counters menu, under Increment, click the Add Input button and select the Counting Line rule that will be adding to the tally.

If you want the Counter to subtract from the tally, under Decrement, click the Add Input button and select the Counting Line rule that will be subtracting from the tally.

A text box will overlay the camera’s video in the preview window.  Click-and-drag the text box to the desired position where you want the Counter to display.

  1. Additional optional configurations include:
    • Reset Counter – click this button to reset the tally count to zero (0).  You will not be able to recover the tally count after pressing this button.
    • Event Notification (TCP Event) – enable for TCP notifications when event is triggered
    • Event Notification (HTTP Event) – enable for HTTP notifications when event is triggered
    • Action Rule – you may select an Action Rule to activate when the event is triggered
    • Convert IVA to MD – enable to allow camera to pass IVA event through the camera’s event engine using the camera’s ONVIF stream
  1. After configuring the Counter Properties and Event Actions, click the Save button to apply the settings and create the Counter.
