E-SATA Support
The VMAX A1 Plus (Gen4) includes an e-SATA port embedded in the rear panel of the recorder. While the recorder’s internal storage drives (HDDs) will act as the primary means of storage, an external e-SATA drive can be connected for additional recording storage.
**NOTE: e-SATA storage is for recording purposes only. Footage backup/export through e-SATA is not supported.
**NOTE: The overall maximum storage capacity of the VMAX A1 Plus (Gen4) system may not exceed 32GB (16-ch, 8-ch) and 16GB (4-ch). It is not guaranteed that all e-SATA devices are compatible with the VMAX system. It is recommended to check if the e-SATA device is recognized by other devices (PC, etc.).
Supported/Affected Devices:
- VMAX A1 Plus (Gen4)
Using E-SATA for External Storage
After initially connecting the additional storage, the e-SATA device must be switched ON before booting the VMAX A1 Plus (Gen4) back up. As the system does not support hot plugging, the DVR must be rebooted before the system will recognize the newly connected device after connecting an external HDD to the e-SATA port.
After rebooting the DVR, check the System>HDD menu to confirm that the system recognizes the connected e-SATA drive.
Click the Check button in the Health column. The Port information will display as “SATA: 255” if there is an internal cable connected to the e-SATA port of the motherboard.
