Firmware Recovery
In the event of system errors, software corruption, or display issues, recovery firmware can be applied as a final troubleshooting step. The recovery image installs a temporary recovery firmware that restores the encoder to a bootable state. After recovery completes, you must install the official production firmware.
This article will outline how to prepare and use the recovery firmware for the DWC-ENC4K16 analog to IP encoder.
Supported/Affected Devices:
- 16-Channel 4K HD Analog to IP Encoder (DW-ENC4K16)
Recovery Preparation
Required Files
- Recovery Firmware: firmware98336_d2
- Official Firmware: D4E_UI1P_240614_140_70237.release.fls
Important Notes
- Using the recovery firmware will reset the encoder to factory default settings.
- The ENC4K16 does not support remote firmware updates/upgrades; the process must be performed locally.
-
You will need two (2) USB drives, each formatted as FAT32
- USB Drive 1: Contains the recovery firmware.
- USB Drive 2: Contains the official firmware.
**NOTE: Each USB drive must contain only a single firmware file in the root directory. Additional files or folders may prevent the encoder from recognizing the firmware.
- Install the recovery firmware (only) on the USB drive.
- Use the recovery firmware on the encoder.
- Remove the USB from the machine and replace the recovery firmware with the official firmware (only).
- Insert the USB into the encoder and apply the official firmware.
Recovery Instructions
When applying recovery firmware to a DW-ENC4K16 analog to IP video encoder:
- Prepare the USB drives.
- Copy each firmware file (recovery or official release) to its respective USB drive.
- Ensure that the file is placed in the root directory of the USB and is not inside any folders.
- Ensure that there are no additional files or folders in the USB drives.
- Perform the System Recovery.
- Insert the USB drive with the recovery firmware (firmware98336_d2) into the encoder.
- Power OFF the encoder, then power it back ON.
-
Wait for at least 15 minutes as the encoder:
-
- Clears its configuration.
- Repairs its kernel and file system.
- Upgrades to the recovery firmware version.
-
-
Install the Official Production Firmware
- After the recovery process is complete, install the official production firmware to restore the encoder to a supported firmware version
- Replace the USB containing the Recovery Firmware with the USB containing the Official Firmware (D4E_UI1P_240614_140_70237.release.fls).
- Using the local firmware update function, upgrade the encoder to the official version. Then update to the latest official firmware version for the encoder.
- Remove the USB drive from the Encoder and update to the latest official firmware version for the encoder.
