Connecting to an HD Spot Module

The DW Spot Monitoring Module (DW-HDSPOTMOD) can display live video streams from a VMAX IP Plus NVR.

When adding cameras from a VMAX IP Plus to an HD Spot Module, cameras must be manually added using RTSP stream URLs. This allows the HD Spot Module to receive camera streams through the VMAX IP Plus without requiring direct camera connections.

 

Requirements:

  • The VMAX IP Plus and HD Spot Module are connected to the same network.
  • Administrator credentials for both devices are available.
  • Cameras are configured and are displaying properly on the VMAX IP Plus.
  • Cameras are using H.264 encoding, as the HD Spot Module does not support H.265 streams.

VMAX® IP Plus™ Limitations

The VMAX® IP Plus™ uses additional system resources when streaming camera feeds to external devices. Each RTSP stream connection increases processing requirements and may impact system performance when multiple streams are added.

To help maintain system performance:

  • Limit the number of HD Spot Module connections per VMAX® IP Plus™.
  • Monitor recorder performance when adding multiple RTSP streams.
  • Avoid exceeding the recommended connection limits.

Each VMAX® IP Plus™ NVR model (4-channel, 8-channel, and 16-channel) supports up to:

  • 16 user connections
  • 64 total channel connections

Adding cameras to an HD Spot Module using RTSP consumes two (2) user connections per camera.

Because of this limitation, it is recommended that each VMAX® IP Plus™ NVR support no more than two (2) HD Spot Module connections.

Example

A 16-channel VMAX® IP Plus™ with all 16 camera channels in use and streaming to two (2) 16-channel HD Spot Modules would create:

  • 32 RTSP user connections
  • Equivalent to 64 channel connections

This reaches the maximum supported channel capacity and may result in performance issues, including video streaming interruptions, GUI lag, or system responsiveness issues.

 

Assigning Cameras from A VMAX® IP Plus™ (RTSP)

Part 1:  Obtaining an RTSP from the VMAX® IP Plus™ Web Viewer

  1. Open a web browser.
    • Enter the IP Address and Web Port of the VMAX IP Plus into the browser address bar.

  2. Example:

    • IP Address: 192.168.100.52
    • Web Port: 80
    • Complete URL: http://192.168.100.52/
  3. Log in to the VMAX IP Plus using an Administrator account.
  4. Default User ID: admin
  5. Default Password: Blank (unless it has been changed)

Select the Setup tab.

  • From the left-side menu, navigate to:

  • Network → Network

Record the following information:

  1. IP Address
  2. RTSP Port

**NOTE:  The default RTSP Port is 554.  Changing this port number will, as a result, change the URL of the NVR’s RTSP stream(s).

 

After recording the VMAX IP Plus IP Address and RTSP Port, create the RTSP stream URLs using the formats below. Both the Main Stream URL and Sub Stream URL will be required when adding the camera to the HD Spot Module.

Main Stream URL: rtsp://<IP Address>:<RTSP Port>/main/ch<Channel Number>

Sub Stream URL: rtsp://<IP Address>:<RTSP Port>/sub/ch<Channel Number>

 

Example

VMAX IP Plus IP Address: 192.168.100.52
RTSP Port: 554
Camera Channel: 1

Main Stream URL

rtsp://192.168.100.52:554/main/ch1

Sub Stream URL

rtsp://192.168.100.52:554/sub/ch1

 

Part 2:  Applying an RTSP to the HD Spot Module

To assign cameras from a VMAX® IP Plus™ to an HD Spot Module by RTSP:

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Enter the IP Address and Web Port of the HD Spot Module into the browser address bar.

Example:

  • IP Address: 192.168.100.112
  • Web Port: 8080
  • Complete URL: http://192.168.100.112:8080/

 

 

 

  1. After logging in, select:
    • Monitoring → Registration
    • The Registration menu will display.

    • Since VMAX® IP Plus™ camera channels are added using RTSP streams, select:

      Manual Registration

 

  1. Configure the following settings:
  • Protocol: Select RTSP 
  • Channel: Enter the camera channel number from the VMAX® IP Plus™ that will be added to the HD Spot Module.
  •  Main Stream URL: Enter the RTSP address for the VMAX® IP Plus™ Main Stream. 
  • Sub Stream URL: Enter the RTSP address for the VMAX® IP Plus™ Sub Stream. 
  • User ID: Enter the username used to log in to the VMAX® IP Plus™. 
  • Password: Enter the password used to log in to the VMAX® IP Plus™.
