File Explorer Access to DW Blackjack NAS
The DW Blackjack NAS utilizes the SAMBA networking protocol to provide file services for various Microsoft Windows clients. As so, the Blackjack NAS can typically be accessed directly using the Windows File Explorer application.
However, it has been found that in some circumstances the Blackjack NAS cannot be accessed normally. This may be indicative that there is a lack of permissions or that the file directory cannot be located by the system, despite being accessible to a DW Spectrum server computer. This issue is most experienced following a major Windows update.
This article will outline a potential solution to recover access in this situation.
Supported/Affected Devices:
- DW Blackjack Servers (Windows OS)
- DW Blackjack NAS Series
- DW-BJ16NASxTR
- DW-BJ8NASxTR [Discontinued]
- DW-BJNASxT
- DW-BJNASxTR
Allowing Insecure Guest Authentication
To set parameters for guest authentication to a DW Blackjack NAS:
- From the Windows desktop, press the Windows W+ R keys to open the Run application, then enter “regedit” to open the Registry Editor application. Alternatively, you can search for “Registry Editor”.
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
- Under “Parameters”, locate and double-click on “AllowInsecureGuestAuth”.
Edit the Value data and change the value from “0” to “1” to enable the setting, then click the OK button to apply the changes.
This change will now allow Windows to access the DW Blackjack NAS files directly using the Windows File Explorer application.
