Mobile Push Notifications
Mobile Push Notifications can be a convenient way to alert VMAX users when an event is taking place at their surveillance site. The VMAX G4 Series is no different from its predecessors where the option to send Push Notifications can be sent straight from the recorder directly to mobile devices for specific event triggers such as:
- Sensor Alerts (external or analytic)
- Video Loss
- Meta Data
- Motion Alarm
- S.M.A.R.T.
- MetaData (IVA+)
This article will outline how to enable Push Notifications in DW Mobile Plus, how to configure MEGApix camera analytics for Line Crossing and Intrusion Zones, and how to set up the Mobile Notify settings on your VMAX G4 recorder.
Supported/Affected Devices:
- VMAX® IP G4™ Series (IP NVR Recorder)
- VMAX® A1 G4™ Series (Analog DVR Recorder)
Required Mobile Application
For remote viewing and Push Notifications when using a VMAX G4 Series recorder, it is recommended to download and use DW Mobile Plus for mobile viewing.
This application can be acquired from both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store for your mobile device.
Setting Up Mobile Push Notifications
Part 1: DW Mobile Plus App Setup
- Download and install DW Mobile Plus on your device, then add your VMAX recorder to your sites.
- Connect with your site and establish a Live connection with the recorder.
While viewing the site, open the Menu and select “Push Notification”.
- Toggle the Push Notification slider into the activated position.
Part 2: Configure MEGApix Camera Setup
This part of the guide applies to the VMAX IP G4 recorder only. If you will be using the Line Crossing or Intrusion Zone analytics of a MEGApix IP camera, settings within the IP camera’s interface must be set up to trigger mobile notifications through the recorder.
Cameras connected directly to the built-in PoE switch of the VMAX IP G4 can be accessed through the recorder’s virtual ports with a web browser.
Use the following information to connect with a camera through the VMAX IP G4 virtual ports:

After connecting with the camera’s web client, you will need to log in to the camera. You will need the MAC address of the VMAX IP G4 recorder to proceed. The MAC address can be found in the System Information menu, directly from the recorder.
Be aware that the NVR system applies a unique password to IP cameras when they are initially connected to the built-in PoE switch.
You can log in with the following information:
- Username: admin
- Password: !A<MAC Address of NVR> (lower case)
After logging in to the camera, enable and configure the Line Crossing or Intrusion Zone analytics as needed.
Part 3: Mobile Notify Recorder Setup
This section must be performed at the VMAX G4 recording unit.
To enable the Mobile Notify feature:
- Log in to the VMAX IP G4 or VMAX A1 G4 recorder as the Administrator (admin).
- Once logged in, right-click in the viewing area and navigate to the Mobile Notify menu.
Menu > Network > Mobile Notify
The Mobile Notify menu will display the IP address of the recorder and the unique Device IDs of connected mobile devices that have enabled the Push Notification settings within the DW Mobile Plus application.
- Event – select the device(s) from the list and select “Sensor”. Specify any other additional Event types that users should also be notified of.
- Interval – set a limit for how frequently notifications are allowed to be sent.
Click Save to apply the settings.
- Next, configure the NVR to use a sensor recording mode with the cameras. To do so, navigate to:
Menu > Record > Recording Schedule
Select the desired camera channel and select a sensor-based recording mode. For example, the “CONT+SENS” recording mode is recommended for recording at 1 FPS unless a sensor triggers to save space.
Save the settings once the Recording Schedule is done.
**Critical: If you are using an IVA/IVA+ camera as the analytic sensor, you will need to create an IVA Event Alarm that has the Notify setting enabled using the NVR’s Alarm Manager settings.
Part 4: Searching for Sensor Event Playback
To search for video recorded triggered by a Sensor Event, such as Line Crossing:
- From the main screen of the NVR, right-click on the camera and select “Special Cam Search” from the context menu.
- Select the event type most relevant to your camera:
- Video Analytics – select if you are using a non-IVA camera. Select “Line Crossing” to search the event log.

- IVA Event – select if you are using an IVA/IVA+ camera. Select the Event type from the dropdown of the analytic sensor event, such as Line Crossing, Perimeter Intrusion, etc.
- Push notifications received through the DW Mobile Plus application will appear when the sensor event triggers. To view playback in the mobile app, select the event from the Push Notification list.
