Hardware Serial Numbers

Whenever customers are receiving troubleshooting assistance, advanced product replacement, and other services related to technical support, DW Support will request the device serial number. This information must be made available so that responding agents can create a support ticket and appropriately track any assistance that is provided.

Under certain circumstances, some customers may not be able to or want to physically look for the identification sticker that is posted onto all DW hardware and devices. It is possible to retrieve the serial number, but you will need to access the operating system desktop. Unfortunately, the Spectrum Client will not provide access to the desktop or serial number.

This article will outline where to navigate the operating system of a DW Blackjack Server or Appliance to find the device’s serial number without needing to physically move the hardware.

  • DW Blackjack Servers and Appliances (WinOS, Ubuntu Linux OS)

 

Finding the Serial Number

Windows Operating System

To find the serial number in Windows:

  1. Open the Windows desktop.
  2. Use the Windows search bar to open the View Advanced System Settings menu.
  1. In the “System Properties” dialog box.
  2. Click on the “Computer Name” tab to view the computer name.
  3. If the serial number was entered during assembly, it can be found in the “Computer Description” section.

 

Ubuntu Linux Operating System

To find the serial number in Ubuntu Linux:

  1. Open the Ubuntu desktop.
  2. Open the Terminal application and use the following commands as needed:

Find the Blackjack Model Name:

sudo cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_sku

Find the Blackjack Serial Number:

sudo cat/sys/class/dmi/id/chassis_asset_tag

 

Alternative Method

If you do not want to use the Terminal application, you can find the information in the file directory at:

Computer/Computer/sys/class/dmi/id
