System Recovery

If your system is experiencing system errors, software corruption, or display issues, you can use the Recovery Firmware as a last resort to restore functionality. Running the recovery process will reset the NVR to factory defaults and roll back the firmware to an older version, resolving most operational issues. Once the recovery is complete, you can update the NVR to the latest firmware version.

This article will guide you through the recovery process for the VMAX IP G4.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • VMAX® IP G4 Series

Recovering the System

Step 1: Extract the Recovery Files

  1. Locate the downloaded recovery firmware file (recovery_files).
  2. Extract the entire (.zip) folder to your computer.

Step 2: Prepare the USB Drive

  1. Use a blank USB flash drive (16GB–32GB, formatted as FAT32)
  2. Format the USB drive as FAT32 (this can be done through your computer's formatting options).
  3. Copy the entire extracted folder onto the USB drive.

Important:

  • Do not rename or move any files out of the folder.
  • Below is an example of how the folder should appear on your USB drive:

Step 3: Insert the USB Drive into the NVR

  1. Safely eject the USB drive from your computer.
  2. Insert the USB drive into one of the rear USB ports on the NVR.

⚠️ Do not use the front USB port—the system may not detect the recovery files.

Step 4: Reboot the NVR and Start Recovery

  1. Power off the NVR:
    • If the NVR is running, shut it down properly through the system menu.
    • If you cannot access the interface, unplug the power cable to turn it off.
  2. Power on the NVR:
    • Plug the power cable back in to restart the system.
    • The NVR will automatically detect the recovery files and start the firmware recovery process.
    • The system may beep or display a recovery screen during this process.

⏳ Wait patiently until the recovery
