Immix Integration

DW Spectrum IPVMS can be utilized to send notifications to a SureView Systems Immix Server that has been configured to alert users when an alarm has been triggered and detected by DW Spectrum.

This article will outline how to configure a DW Spectrum System and an Immix Server to integrate into creating a cohesive notification system.

**NOTE:  The DW Spectrum Server networking must be configured prior to using this guide. If the network configuration is not complete for the local server(s), external email notifications will not be possible.

Before You Begin…

Port Management

The following network ports will need to be opened/whitelisted through the network’s Internet facing router. If the ports test shows as OPEN, the DW Spectrum Server and Immix Server will be able to communicate over the Internet.

Port 7001 TCP

For DW Spectrum Server web commands and live video

Port 25 TCP

For Immix Server to receive SMTP alarms from DW Spectrum

**NOTE:  For full DW Spectrum IPVMS services over an external network (Internet), additional network ports will also need to be permitted through the local router. For more information, you may refer to FQDN or Whitelist for DW Spectrum Cloud Access.

Standard Immix Server Setup

Below are examples of the recommended Immix Server configurations, as provided by SureView.

Immix – Control Configuration

Host

Use the external IP address of the DW Spectrum Server. The external IP address can be found through the Internet-facing router or by using a port checking website (http://canyouseeme.org) at the recording location.

Port

Use the Port 7001 for DW Spectrum Servers. The port allows the DW Spectrum Server to communicate with the DW Spectrum Web Portal and with external devices.

User

Use the username that that is used to access the DW Spectrum Web Portal interface.

Password

Use the password that is used to access the DW Spectrum Web Portal interface.

Immix – Preset Configuration

In the table below, you will find example Presets for configuring the Immix Server and DW Spectrum presets.

As you can see in the example, the “Garage”, “Entrance”, and “Kitchen” DW Spectrum presets do not convert to Immix presets properly. This is because for presets to operate as expected in Immix, every DW Spectrum preset must have the Preset number in square brackets in the name/label of the preset.

Configuring the DW Spectrum® Server

DW Spectrum – Administrator Login

Before any settings can be configured in the DW Spectrum System, administrator access will be required.

To log in to DW Spectrum, launch the DW Spectrum Client software on a computer than is configured to access the DW Spectrum Server.  In the login screen, click on the tile for the DW Spectrum System.

Log in to DW Spectrum as a user with Administrator privileges. If you are using a DW Blackjack Series server, you may use the credentials:

  • Default ID:  admin
  • Default Password:  admin12345

DW Spectrum – Creating PTZ Presets

To configure Preset names for DW Spectrum:

  1. In the DW Spectrum Client, right-click on the camera in DW Spectrum and select “PTZ”, then select “Manage”.

**NOTE:  PTZ management settings are available for cameras capable of pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) functionality. If the camera does not support PTZ movement, the “PTZ” option will be unavailable.

  1. The Manage PTZ window will display. This will list all preset camera positions that have been created for the selected camera.

To create a PTZ focal point for the selected PTZ camera, you must first orient the camera to the desired direction. Click on the PTZ icon and position the camera to point toward the desired target area for the PTZ preset.

Once the camera has been positioned to the desired angle, back in the Manage PTZ window, click the “Save Current Position” button.

**NOTE:  The DW Spectrum Client software allows users to customize the layout and appearance of their user experience. To change to a different PTZ control type, please refer to PTZ Auto-Focus and Camera Control in DW Spectrum.

  1. The new camera position will be added to the Manage PTZ preset list.

To configure the preset for Immix, double-click on the new preset and enter your desired preset name along with the preset number [x].

For example:

<Camera Name> [Preset #] à Home [1]

Click the “Apply” button to save the preset settings, then click the “OK” button to close the Manage PTZ window.

The name of the PTZ preset that you designate in DW Spectrum correlates with the preset settings on the Immix Server.

DW Spectrum – SMTP Email Notification Setup

To set up the Email Notification settings of a DW Spectrum System:

  1. Launch the DW Spectrum Client application on the connecting computer.

Click on the device tile that represents the DW Spectrum System and log in.

  • Default User:  admin
  • Default Password:  admin12345

  1. After logging in, the DW Spectrum Client will display the user interface of the DW Spectrum System.

To configure the system settings, click on the Main Menu and select “System Administration”.

  1. Select the “Email” tab at the top of the System Administration window to display the Outgoing Email Settings of the DW Spectrum System.

Click and toggle the “Advanced Settings” toggle in the Outgoing Email Settings.  This will allow a more specific setup for the email notification service.

Using the IP address of the Immix Server, configure the following:

  • Email – use the format of “S#@immix.com”, where the “#” is replaced by the S number (unique identifier) of the Immix Server. For example, “S1@immix.com” would represent Immix Site-1at the Immix Server location.
  • Port – use “Auto”; alternatively, you can use the Immix Server’s default port (Port 25) to represent the Immix Server communication port if more specific needs are required.
  • SMTP Server – use the IP address of the Immix Server
  • User – use “–“; not used by the Immix Server
  • Password – use “–“; not used by the Immix Server
  • Connection Type – select “Unsecure Connection”; not used by the Immix Server
  • System Signature – [optional] leave this blank
  • Support Signature – [optional] you may use the default signature used by DW Spectrum or enter a different email address; this information will be used as a signature in notification messages

Click the “Apply” button to save the SMTP email settings for the DW Spectrum System. 

Click the “Test” button to have the DW Spectrum System send data packets to test the connection with the Immix Server. If the test fails, check that the email address and SMTP Server address have been correctly entered correctly. Specifying the network port for the Immix Server may also help.

DW Spectrum – User Profile Setup

DW Spectrum will send email notifications to system administrators and to specified user profiles. To create a new user for the Immix Server connection with the DW Spectrum Client:

  1. In the System Administration menu, select the “Users” tab.

The Users menu will display and list all users that have been added to the DW Spectrum System.  Click the “New User” button to make a new user profile.

  1. In the User Settings window, configure the following:
  • Login – create a username that will be used to log in to DW Spectrum
  • Name – [optional] use a name or title to label this new user profile
  • Email – use the format of “S#@immix.com”, where the “#” is replaced by the S number (unique identifier) of the Immix Server. For example, “S1@immix.com” would represent Immix Site-1at the Immix Server location.
  • Password – create a password for this DW Spectrum user profile; it is recommended to create a password that uses at least 8-characters that include at least two (2) variations of lowercase letters (abc), capitalized letters (ABC), numbers, or non-roman symbols
  • Confirm Password – reenter the password to check for typos or other inconsistencies
  • Role – select the DW Spectrum user role that best fits this user; depending on the permissions of the selected role, this will determine what system permissions this user will have while using the DW Spectrum System. If this user should have full access to all system functions and settings, select “Administrator”.

When you have finished configuring the user information, click the “Apply” button to save the settings, then click the “OK” button.

DW Spectrum – Event Management Setup

Event rules are essentially virtual triggers for event notifications that are overseen by the DW Spectrum System. For example, the system can be configured to send SMTP email notifications when a specific camera detects motion or when an I/O door sensor detects activity. To accomplish this for the Immix Server, custom event rules must be created.

To create a new event rule with the DW Spectrum Client:

  1. Open the System Administration menu and select the “Event Rules” tile.

In the Event Rules menu, click the “Add” button to create a new rule.

  1. A new event rule setup form will display.

For email notifications to the Immix Server, configure the following:

  • Event/When – select the event type that will trigger the DW Spectrum System to send email notifications. The DW Spectrum alarm types below are supported by the Immix Server.

**NOTE:  Only multiple devices using "Device Disconnect" are supported. Other multiple alarm alerts received by the Immix Server will not match every device.

  • Source – select the camera(s) that will be associated with this
  • Action/Do set to “Send email”
  • Target/To select the new user profile that was created for the Immix Server (e.g. “Immix”)
  • Interval of Action set to “Instant”

Click the “Apply” button to save the new event rule.

Immix Server Troubleshooting

License Alarms Do Not Match Devices

License alarms are only supported as a notification. Due to this, the license alarms will always be received with the device “System”. If actions should result upon a license alarm for this setup, configure the alarm in Immix with the Response ExtraValue as “System”.

PTZ on Proxy DW Spectrum Servers

This API method will work only if a camera is connected to the server to which the API command is sent. Otherwise, it will not proxy properly. This is because of the initial way of how the Immix API scheme is built.

There are two types of requests:

  • /ec2/ – a system-wide command
  • /api/ – applied to a specific server within the system

Example PTZ Setup

In this example, the Immix Server Network uses an external IP address of “92.254.106.104:7001”, which is managed by the router. This example site is using a network that is external (WAN) to the local network (LAN) of the servers (recording site), and will communicate between networks by using external IP addresses.

Meanwhile, the recording site consists of three (3) servers:

  • DW Spectrum Server 1 – 192.168.0.1 (this address has been port forwarded [7001] on the router)
  • Other Server 2 – 192.138.0.2
  • Other Server 3 – 192.168.0.3

If PTZ cameras are connected to Server 1, then PTZ control is possible. However, if PTZ cameras are connected to Server 2 or Server 3, which are not port forwarded, PTZ control will not function and will result in an error message.

For example – {"error":"2","errorString":"PTZ is not supported by camera '{camera id}'.","reply":null} – would display.

Ensure that the server that is hosting PTZ cameras has been port forwarded so that it can act as a proxy when controlled from the Immix Server Network.
