Email Notifications
By utilizing the Email Notification feature within the MEGApix® IP Camera interface, Administrators can configure the camera to send an email to a specified email address when a set alarm event triggers.
This article will outline how to set up the Email Notifications feature within a MEGApix® IP camera.
**Note: The DW Spectrum® IPVMS platform and VMAX Standalone Units also feature an Email Notification feature. This article focuses on the MEGApix® IP camera only. Images within this article may display differently from your camera – we will be using the DWC-MTT4Wi28 camera.
Supported/Affected Devices:
- MEGApix® IP Camera Series
SMTP Servers
The MEGApix® IP Camera Series does not have its own email service to send outgoing emails. In order for the camera to send notifications by email, an SMTP email service will need to be provided.

To set up outgoing email settings, you must know the SMTP server information of your email provider.
Use the table below for SMTP information of most common email services:

Configuring Email Notification
To set up the Email Notification feature on a MEGApix® IP Camera:
- Using a computer that shares the same local network (LAN) as the MEGApix® IP Camera, open a web browser and connect with the camera’s web Graphical User Interface (GUI). We recommend the use of Internet Explorer.
After connecting, enter the camera’s login to access the interface.
-
- Default ID: admin
- Default Password: admin
**Note: To connect to the camera’s web GUI, enter the camera’s IP address into the address bar (Ex: http://192.168.1.200).
- After logging in, click on the Config tab.
- Locate the Network menu and select Email.
- From the Email menu, enter the following information:
- Sender Address – provide the email address that will be utilized to send the notification.
- User Name – re-enter the email address that will be utilized to send the notification.
- Password – enter the password of the sending email address.
- Server Address – enter the SMTP server information of your email service. For example, Gmail is “smtp.gmail.com”.
- Secure Connection – if your email service supports a TLS or SSL connection type, you may enable this feature.
- SMTP Port – enter the SMTP port of your email service. Note that the selection of TSL or SSL will determine which SMTP port to use.
- Send Interval [optional] – set a limit to how frequently email notifications may be sent (in seconds).
- After entering the required Sender information, under the Recipient section, enter the Recipient Address to where the notification will be sent, then click the Add button.
- After entering the Sender information and a Recipient Address, click the Test button.
If all of the information is correct, you will receive a “Test successful” message. If the test fails, double-check your settings and read the Additional Email Security Settings section below.
- If you have successfully tested the Email Notification feature, you will need to set a trigger for the event. Select the Alarm menu and create the parameters for the triggering event.
For example, to set Motion Detection as the event trigger:
- Select Motion Detection and Enable the feature
- Enable the Trigger Email setting
- If you would like an image to be attached with each notification from this alarm type, enable the Attach Picture setting
- Click the Save button to apply the configuration settings
Additional Email Security Settings
If you are using an email service like Gmail, you may need to adjust additional email account security settings.
Other than using a different email service for setting up email notifications, to use Gmail be sure to use the Google Accounts App Passwords feature.
To create and use App Passwords:
- Go to your Google Account.
- Select Security.
- Under "Signing in to Google," select App Passwords. You may need to sign in. If you don’t have this option, it might be because:
- 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
- 2-Step Verification is only set up for security keys.
- Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
- You turned on Advanced Protection.
- At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using.
Use “Select device” to specify a device and choose the device you’re using, then click “Generate”.
- Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
Use this 16-character code as your new password as a replacement in your DW product’s SMTP email notification settings.
- Tap Done to close the password window in Google.
- Use the Test function in the MEGApix® camera’s Email Sender settings to confirm that the Email Notification feature can now send outgoing emails after allowing your email service to do so.
Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.
Please be aware that if you change your Google Account password, App Passwords will be revoked as part of Google’s account protection campaign.
