Camera Firmware

It is recommended to keep camera firmware up to date with the latest version to prevent video loss, camera discovery issues, and other operational problems that can occur from using outdated firmware.

This article will outline how to upgrade firmware for a DW MEGApix IP camera directly using the camera’s web interface or by using the DW IP Finder program.

Supported/Affected Devices

  • DW MEGApix® Camera Series

Updating with a Web Browser

To update IP camera firmware using the camera’s web interface:

  1. Download the most recent version of the camera firmware from http://digital-watchdog.com.

Use the DW Product Selector to or manually enter the camera’s Product Model Number into the search box to locate the product page of your camera.

On the camera’s product page, scroll down and click on the Downloads tab. Download the most recent firmware version from the Software section.

  1. After downloading the camera firmware, connect with the camera’s web interface. You can do this by either:
    • Entering the camera’s IP Address and TCP/IP Port directly into the URL address bar of a web browser.

    • Or by using the Web Page feature of DW Spectrum IPVMS. The camera must be added to your DW Spectrum Server before this feature can be used.

**NOTE:  If the camera’s TCP/IP Port value has been changed from the default setting (Port 80), the correct port value must be specified when using a web browser to connect. Use a colon symbol ( : ) to separate the IP Address and the port value.

Example:

Camera IP Address:  192.168.1.90

Changed TCP/IP Port:  8245

Example URL:  http://192.168.1.90:8245

  1. Log into the camera as the Administrator (admin). However, if you are connecting using the DW Spectrum Web Page feature, you will be automatically logged in.

DW cameras now require a password assignment when initially connecting with the camera.  For more information, please read Assigning Passwords to IP Cameras.

  1. Once you have logged in to the camera, click the Setup button.

Click the System tab then select the Firmware Update menu.

Locate the Web Update section and click on “Select a File”.

Select the new firmware version file from the download location then click the Start F/W Update button.

  1. Allow the camera to complete the update process. Once completed, the camera will automatically reboot and begin to use the new firmware version.

Updating with DW IP Finder

To use the DW IP Finder program to update camera firmware:

  1. Open the DW IP Finder application and scan for the camera on the local network.
  2. Select the camera from the list of detected DW devices and click the FW Upgrade button.

**NOTE:  You can select multiple cameras simultaneously but make sure that all the selected cameras are the same Model and use the same firmware version.

  1. In the resulting Firmware Upgrade window, click the Browse button and select the new camera firmware.

Click the Update Cameras button to begin the firmware update.

You can monitor the update process through DW IP Finder. Once a camera has been updated, the Status column will provide a successful upload confirmation.

The camera will then automatically reboot and begin to use the new camera firmware.
