Weather Resistant Ethernet Cap

The NightWatch White Light and IR LED Illuminators use a 3.28 ft. (1m) long network cable, with a female RJ45 Cat5e compliant jack and an IP68 rated cover.  This creates a waterproof seal for PoE+ connection to a PoE IEEE802at compliant switch for both power and network connection.

This article outlines how to connect your NightWatch Illuminator’s weather resistant Ethernet cap for outdoor use.

Supported/Affected Devices

  • NightWatch IR LED IP-enabled PoE+ Illuminator
  • NightWatch White Light IP-enabled PoE+ Illuminator

Assembly Instructions

To use the weather resistant Ethernet cap:

  1. Feed the unterminated cable through the connector end cap.

  1. Pass the unterminated cable through the main connector body.  Ensure that the connector body is facing the correct direction for the cap threading.

  1. Strip the Ethernet cable to the required length for the RJ45 connector.

  1. Attach and crimp the RJ45 connector.  Make sure that the wires are in the correct order before crimping.

  1. Connect the RJ45 connector to the Illuminator’s Ethernet port.

  1. Slide the main body of the waterproofing cap (1) to the Illuminator’s Ethernet port.  Rotate the main body clockwise until tight (2).

  1. Slide the end cap to meet the main body of the waterproofing cap (1).  Rotate the end cap clockwise until a tight seal is created (2).
