UTC Control

The VMAX® A1 Plus recording unit supports UTC (Up-the-Coax) communication, allowing users to communicate and control select cameras from the DVR. However, for this feature to work, the DVR and the connected camera must be configured to use the same signal type.

This article will outline how to change the Protocol settings of a VMAX® A1 Plus for UTC control with a connected analog camera.

Supported/Affected Devices

  • VMAX® A1 Plus Series (5 MP)
  • DW Star-Light™ Analog Camera Series
  • DW Star-Light Plus™ Analog Camera Series

Setting Up UTC Protocol

  1. If you have not already done so, right-click with the mouse, then log in to the VMAX® A1 Plus as the admin.
    • Default ID: admin
    • Default PW: --- (blank)

  1. Once logged in, right-click, then select Menu.

  1. Click on the Device icon, then select Camera.

  1. The Camera menu will display. Verify which video signal the connected camera is using by looking under the Resolution column.
  • A – AHD/HD-A Signal
  • T – TVI Signal
  • C – CVI Signal
  • CVBS – 960H Signal

  1. To ensure that the VMAX® A1 Plus is also using the same protocol for that channel, click on the PTZ tab.

  1. Under the Protocol column, select the protocol from the drop-down list that matches the connected camera’s video signal.

  1. Click the Save button to apply the changes.

Note:  If you are still unable to use the UTC controls of the DVR to communicate with the camera, make sure that the Address setting matches the camera’s ID/Address as well. Additionally, ensure that the DVR’s current firmware version is up-to-date.

Note:  If UTC/PTZ controls do not respond, it is recommended to bench test the camera with a short cable run to verify that it is not a cabling issue prior to contacting Technical Support.
