DW Mobile Plus Mobile Application

The DW Mobile Plus mobile application can be downloaded and installed from the mobile application store of most Android and iOS devices.  This mobile application allows users to monitor their VMAX® A1 Plus recording units using either direct connection (IP Address), DDNS, or Pathfinder (P2P).

This article will outline how to connect with a VMAX® A1 Plus unit using the DW Mobile Plus application.

**NOTE:  To proceed with setting up the DW Mobile Plus mobile application, the network setup for the DVR must be completed.  If you have not yet set up network settings for the DVR, please read Network Setup For A VMAX A1 Plus before proceeding.

Supported/Affected Devices

  • VMAX® A1 Plus Series

Direct Connection

To create a new site for connection with the DVR using the DW Mobile Plus mobile application, you must know the IP Address of the DVR.  This information may be found in the Network settings of the unit.

  1. If have yet to do so, please download and install the DW Mobile Plus (available for iOS & Android) mobile application from your mobile device’s application store.

  1. Launch the DW Mobile Plus mobile application.

Press the orange + button to create a new site.

If you are using the iOS version, select Site.

  1. Enter the network connection information from the DVR.

This information can be found in the Network settings of the VMAX® A1 Plus unit.

  1. Enter the User ID and User PW of the VMAX® A1 Plus unit.

This information is the same User ID and Password that you log in with for the VMAX® A1 Plus recording unit.

  1. Press the Save button at the bottom of the Add New Site menu.

The DW Mobile Plus mobile application will confirm that the site settings were saved and take you back to the Site List.

  1. Site setup is now complete.  You may select your site and establish a live connection with the DVR.

If you fail to connect, press on the pencil icon to prompt edit mode, then select your site to check the site settings.  Do not click on the red circle while in edit mode, unless you want to delete the site.

**NOTE:  When connecting from the local network (LAN) through Wi-Fi at the DVR’s location, use the Local IP Address of the DVR to connect.

When connecting from an external network (WAN) through the Internet, use either the DDNS address of the DVR or the Public IP Address of the network to connect.

Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS)

If you have completed the Wide Area Network (WAN) Setup section of Network Setup For A VMAX A1 Plus or Network Setup For A VMAX A1 G4 (4K), the use of a DDNS address may be implemented when connecting from outside of the local network instead of the Local IP Address of the DVR.

This addressing option allows a user to create their own URL for their recording unit, allowing a simpler approach to entering connection information.  For example, rather than having to remember a numerical Public IP Address (e.g., 47.180.164.323) that is prone to change, a more recognizable URL can be implemented instead (e.g., mydvr.mydwddns.net).

**NOTE:  Connection through DDNS will not work if your connecting device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) is using the same internal network as the recording unit.  This includes the use of Wi-Fi.  Local connections must use the Local IP Address of the DVR.

**NOTE:  Use of DDNS requires the implementation of Port Forwarding to operate through a network security firewall or SonicWall.

When adding a new site for offsite connection with DDNS:

  1. In the VMAX® A1 Plus interface, select the DDNS menu and enable the Use DDNS toggle.

Enter a Host Name, then click the Check button to confirm its availability on the selected server (MYDWDDNS.NET).

Once satisfied with your selection, click the Save button to apply the changes.

  1. When creating a new site in DW Mobile Plus, enter your complete DDNS address into the Host field.
    • DDNS Structure:  <Host_Name>.<Server>
    • Example DDNS:  EXAMPLE123.MYDWDDNS.NET

  1. In the Port field, use the TCP/IP Port found in the DVR’s Network settings.

  1. The Login and Password is the same User ID and Password that you use to log in at the VMAX® A1 Plus itself.

Pathfinder

The Pathfinder feature is an easy to connect Peer-to-Peer (P2P) communication option that allows users to connect, monitor, and search surveillance video from their VMAX® A1 Plus recording unit.

Setup is as easy as scanning a QR code from the VMAX® A1 Plus unit.  Please read Connecting To VMAX A1 Plus (5 MP) Using PathFinder (P2P) or Connecting to a VMAX® A1 G4 (4K) Using Pathfinderfor more information.

**NOTE:  Peer-to-Peer (P2P) communication may experience network communication interruptions due to the presence of a Firewall or SonicWall within the network.  If you are using a Firewall or SonicWall, you will need to use direct connection or DDNS for mobile application setup.

**NOTE:  To proceed with setting up Pathfinder for the DW Mobile Plus mobile application, the network setup for the DVR must be completed.  If you have not yet set up network settings for the DVR, please read Network Setup For A VMAX A1 Plus  or Network Setup For A VMAX A1 G4 (4K) before proceeding.
