PTZ Touring

PTZ cameras are great for monitoring areas when security personnel are unavailable to patrol.  The DWC-PTZ20x model camera features options for creating an Auto Scan tour, where the camera will automatically pan, tilt, or zoom, depending on the Auto Scan settings.

This article will outline how to create an Auto Scan tour, using the DWC-PTZ20x.

Supported/Affected Devices

  • DWC-PTZ20x Star-Light HD Camera
  • DWC-PTZ220XW Star-Light HD Camera
  • VMAX A1 Series (2.1 MP)

 

Auto Scan Setup

If you are controlling the DWC-PTZ20x through a VMAX A1 Series (2.1 MP) unit, use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow buttons in the UTC/PTZ menu to select menu sections.

 

  1. Open the camera’s OSD Menu.

The Dome Menu will display.

Highlight Auto Scan, then use the Right Arrow to select the Auto Scan menu.

 

Note:  The exclamation point (!) indicates the currently selected item in the OSD Menu.

 

  1. The Auto Scan Setup menu will display.

Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Number that will be used to identify the Auto Scan tour.  Auto Scan supports up to 17 programmed tours.

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Mode for the camera movement.
  • Normal – Move from start point to end point by panning only
  • Vector – Move from start point to end point by tilting and zooming simultaneously and linearly
  • Random – Move randomly between the start point and end point

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Speed that the camera will tour at.  The lower that the Speed value is set as, the slower the camera movement will be.

 

  1. Select Start Angle, and use the Iris Open key to position and zoom the camera’s FOV to what will be the starting point of the Auto Scan tour.  The word Control will display to indicate that the Start Angle is presently being set. Use the Arrow Keys to position the camera and press the Iris Close key to confirm the Start Angle coordinates.

 

Select End Angle, and use the Iris Open key to position and zoom the camera’s FOV to what will be the ending point of the Auto Scan tour.  The word Control will display to indicate that the End Angle is presently being set. Use the Arrow Keys to position the camera and press the Iris Close key to confirm the End Angle coordinates.

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Scan Direction.
  • CCW – counter clockwise rotation
  • CW – clockwise rotation

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Swap setting.  Set to ON to switch the Start Angle and End Angle coordinate settings.

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Dwell setting.  This determines the how long the camera will stay on the Start Angle or End Angle during the tour.

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Focus setting.  This determines if the camera will automatically focus the lens after moving or if the user will need to manually focus the camera.

 

  1.   Highlight Save and Exit, then use the Right Arrow to confirm the Auto Scan settings.

 

 

Applying Auto Scan

After creating your Auto Scan, the camera must be instructed to use the setup.

  1. From the Dome Menu, highlight Dome Setup, then use the Right Arrow to select the Dome Setup menu.

 

  1. The Configuration Menu will display.

Highlight Home Function Setup, then use the Right Arrow to select the Home Function Setup menu.

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Function setting to Auto Scan.

 

Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Number to the Number value of the Auto Scan tour that you want to assign.

 

Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Waiting Time setting.  This determines how long the camera will wait to begin the Auto Scan tour after

 

  1. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow to set the Enable setting to ON.  This tells the camera that this configuration is to be applied and activated for the camera.

 

  1. Highlight Save and Exit, then use the Right Arrow to confirm the Auto Scan settings

 

  1. Exit the camera’s OSD menu completely to complete the Auto Scan setup for the DWC-PTZ20x.
