DW Spectrum allows users to create a rule with an Action that triggers playing a sound or to speak out a message when certain Events occur. The software incorporates some default sounds that can be utilized, and additionally allows users to upload custom sound files up to 15 seconds in duration to be played when the rule is activated.
The supported formats for custom sound files that can be uploaded are:
- WAV
- MP3
- OGG
- WMA
How to use Audio-as-an-Action
- Launch DW Spectrum and log in as the System Owner or as an Administrator.
- Click on the Menu icon in the upper-left corner (three horizontal lines).
- Select System Administration.
- Under the General tab, select "Event Rules"
- In the Event Rules window, click the "+ Add" button to create a new rule.
- Configure the Event Condition.
- When: Choose the type of event that will trigger the sound. For example, this could be "Motion on Camera", "Input Signal on Device", "Analytics Event", etc.
- At: Select the specific camera(s) that you want to associate with this event.
- Set the Action
- Action: From the list of available actions, select "Play sound" or "Speak"
- At – Device to play the sound on or to pronounce the text on.
- Interval of action: Check to repeat no more than once per a given amount of time (to reduce the number of events), or uncheck for the action to be instant.
- Play to users: If checked, the sound will be played in the client application of the selected users.
- Speak to users: If checked, the text will be pronounced to the selected users in the client application.
- Configure the Play Sound Action
- Sound File: Choose a sound file from the list. DW Spectrum comes with a few default sounds, but you can also add custom sound files to the server.
- Once you have configured all the options for your event rule, click "Apply" to save the rule.
- Trigger the event to ensure that the sound plays as expected. For example, if you set the event to be triggered by motion, simulate motion in front of the camera to test it.
