Pre-Configuration File Requirements

DW Spectrum System orders using a DW MEGApix DWC-PVX20WATX multi-sensor camera may need to add a JSON file to the DW Spectrum server to ensure that only one (1) recording license is needed for the entire camera, rather than having to use four (4) individual licenses for each lens sensor module.

This article will outline how to add a JSON resource file to a DW Spectrum Server. This process must be completed directly on the computer hardware that is hosting the DW Spectrum Server software application.

**NOTE: There may be some circumstances when upgrading to the current, most recent version of DW Spectrum may not be practical for all users, especially when using older or underpowered systems. Otherwise, it is recommended to use the updated build to ensure that bugfixes, and that quality-of-life improvements and features can be applied to the system. If you are unsure about upgrading software versions, you can consult with your DW Representative as needed.

File Download

Use the links below to obtain the JSON file. Due to the file size, these files will be compressed into a folder upon download and a compression software (Winzip, Winrar, etc.) is needed to unzip the folder.

Applying the Files to the Server

After downloading the JSON file using the link above:

  1. If the DWC-PVX20WATX camera is already added to the DW Spectrum Server and appears within its Resource Tree (left-panel of the client), delete the camera from the DW Spectrum Server.

  1. Stop the media server application.
    1. For Windows – Right-click on the media server icon that appears in the Windows system tray and select “Stop Server (started).”

    1. For Ubuntu Linux – Open the Terminal application and use the following commands.
      1. To gain root administrator rights, use the command:

sudo su

      1. The system will request the administrator password. The text characters will be hidden and not display as you type. For DW Blackjack units, the default password is:
        • DW Blackjack units sold with Ubuntu 16.04 – admin
        • DW Blackjack units sold with Ubuntu 18.04 – Dw5pectrum
      2. Once root administrator rights have been gained, use the command:

service digitalwatchdog-mediaserver stop

  1. Copy and paste the downloaded files into the following folder locations.
    1. resource_data.json’ file location:
      • For Windows – C:\Program Files\Digital Watchdog\DW Spectrum\MediaServer
      • For Ubuntu Linux – /opt/digitalwatchdog/mediaserver/bin/
    1. dw_edge_analytics_plugin.dll file location:
      • For Windows – C:\Program Files\Digital Watchdog\DW Spectrum\MediaServer\plugins\

  1.  Start the mediaserver application again.
    1. For Windows – Right-click on the media server icon that appears in the Windows system tray and select “Start Server (stopped)”.
    2. For Ubuntu Linux – In the Terminal application and as the root administrator, use the command:

service digitalwatchdog-mediaserver start

  1. Once the DW Spectrum Server application has finished restarting, you may re-add the DWC-PVX20WATX camera to the system and only one (1) recording license will be needed for the camera.

This completes the pre-configuration instructions for the DWC-PVX20WATX multi-sensor camera being used with a DW Spectrum Server.
