Special Camera Search

The Special Camera Search feature was made available for VMAX NVRs connected to DW MEGApix Ai (V-Class and X-Class) analytic cameras in NVR firmware update 1.5.5.7. This feature allows users to filter and search for specific events and object detections either directly from an NVR or through the camera’s web interface.

This article will outline the Special Camera Search feature in VMAX IP Plus (3rd Gen) and VMAX IP G4 NVRs when using V-Class and X-Class cameras.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • VMAX IP Plus (DW-VP)
  • VMAX IP G4 (DW-VG)
  • V-Class Cameras (DWC-Vxx)
  • X-Class Cameras (DWC-Xxx)

Using Special Camera Search

From the VMAX NVR

To use Special Cam Search directly at the NVR:

  1. On the Live View screen, right-click and select “Special Cam Search”.
  2. Select either DW (V-Class) or DW (X-Class), depending on your camera model(s).
  3. Use the Event Filter to refine search results by:
    • Date – select the start and end date to search for events.
    • Attributes – select specific object types (person, vehicle, etc.) classified by analytic cameras.
    • Event Type – select the type of event that you’d like to search for.
    • Channel – select the camera channels that you would like to include in the search.

From the Web Interface

To use Special Camera Search through the NVR’s web interface:

  1. Log in to the NVR’s web client and open the Setup menu.
  2. Navigate to the Log menu and select either DW (V-Class) or DW (X-Class) to view the Event Log.

DW (V-Class) Event Filter

V-Class Camera Events use object detection to trigger alarms when motion or unauthorized access is detected including:

  • Tampering – detects when a camera’s position has been physically moved or its view has become obscured (e.g., Scene Change, Video Blur, Abnormal Color Detection).
  • Line Crossing – detects when a virtual tripwire has been crossed.
  • Perimeter Intrusion – detects when a tracked object has crossed into a detection zone.

Use the Event Filter in the DW(V-Class) menu to refine event search by:

  • Date – select the start and end date to search for events.
  • Log Type – select the type of event that you’d like to search for.
  • Channel – select the camera channels that you would like to include in the search.

Creating Custom Rules

DW MEGApix Ai Camera Event Rule Setup

DW X-Class systems allow the user to create custom rules for Ai-based event detection. Examples include Intrusion Detection, Line Crossing, etc. You can adjust these rules to detect specific objects such as vehicles, people, bicycles, and clutter.

To set up Event Rules in the camera:

  1. Open the camera’s web interface using an Internet browser and log in as the administrator (Admin).
  2. Open the Setup menu and select the MEGAPIX AI tab.
  3. Click on “Rules” and click the Add button to create a new analytic rule.

  1. Set up the analytic rule type of your choice, including choosing your preferred object classes for detection. When finished, save the rule.

For more information on creating analytic rules in an X-Class camera, refer to DW MEGApix – Ai Analytic Rules Setup.

Troubleshooting Missing Object Classes

If certain object classes are missing from the Attributes Filter or Rule Properties, perform the following:

  1. Check the plugin version for the camera.
    1. Open the camera’s web admin using a browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.)
    2. Open the camera’s Setup menu and navigate to the Plug-In List ta
    3. Verify the plugin version of the MEGApix Ai Plugin.
  2. If needed, update the plugin with the latest version.
