Automated LED Lights

The DWC-XSTD05MFC1 turret camera features built-in white light LEDs, as well as blue and red LEDs. When combined with an Event Rule in DW Spectrum, the camera can be used to both detect and react to situations in the area. When deployed, this can be a conventional way to deter trespassers and/or alert personnel.

This article will outline how to create an Event Rule in DW Spectrum to send an HTTP(S) request to the camera when motion is detected, to trigger LED lights and/or a sound file.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • DWC-XSTD05MFC1

Creating the Event Rule

To create an event rule for motion detection:

  1. In the DW Spectrum Client open the Main Menu and select the System Administration menu (CTRL+ALT+A).

  1. Open the Event Rules menu and click the +Add button to create a new rule.

  1. In the Event section, configure the following:
    • When: set to “Motion on Camera” so that the system will trigger the event when motion is detected.
    • Starts/Stops: set to “Starts” so that the rule will trigger as soon as the event takes place.
    • At: set to “DWC-XSTD05MFC1”; if the camera has been renamed, be sure to select the XSTD05MFC1 camera as listed on your Server.

  1. In the Action section, configure the following:
  • Do: set to “Do HTTP(S) request” so that the system will send a command to the camera upon triggering the event.
  • Interval of Action: set to “Instant” (unchecked) to allow the system to repeat the event freely. Otherwise, you can set a limit as to how frequently the event is allowed to trigger.
  • HTTP(S) URL: copy and paste the desired LED or Sound API for the event rule. To see where to find the list of the API list, see the “Event Rule API” section below.
  • HTTP(S) Content: leave this field blank.
  • Content Type: set to “Auto”.
  • Login: enter the admin ID of the camera.
  • Password: enter the admin password of the camera.
  • Authentication Type: set to “Auto”.
  • Request Type: set to “POST”.

  1. Click the OK button to save the settings and apply the event rule to the system.

Finding the Event Rule API List in XSTD05MFC1

To find the API list:

  1. Log into the camera’s web client either by using a web browser or through the DW Spectrum Client’s Web Page feature.

  1. Click on “Setup” and navigate to the Events > Event Rules menu.

  1. Copy and paste the desired API URL string into the “HTTP(S) URL” field of the DW Spectrum Event Rule.

To increase or decrease the amount of time that the API is active, edit the “timeout” field.

For example, if you wanted to set the Red and Blue LED time limit to last for 10 seconds, the URL would look like:

http://<camera_IP>/cgi-bin/admin/system.cgi?msubmenu=flashlightled1&action=apply&led=red_blue&timeout=10
