Default Configuration

The default maximum length of audio that Spectrum will play is 30 seconds.  In some cases, the play time may need to be expanded beyond this threshold, such as repeating announcements in multiple languages.  This article will explain how to change the parameters of the maximum audio length.  This can be done from any client machine.

**NOTE: If using "play sound" to play audio to users via the client, these steps will need to be repeated on every client in use.

Changing Max Audio Length


Windows

  1. Open Windows Registry
  2. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Digital Watchdog\Digital Watchdog DW Spectrum Client
  3. In the registry field on the right, right-click an open area and select New > String Value.
  4. A new string value will immediately be created awaiting a value name.  Set the value name as maxMp3FileDurationSec.  Note that it is case sensitive.
  5. Once created, double-click the value and enter the desired number of seconds.  In this example, 300 seconds equates to 5 minutes.
  6. Once applied, you will be able to load audio files from your client that are longer than 30 seconds.
     

Linux

  1. Run Terminal with
  2. Enter the command
    sudo su
    followed by your OS password.
  3. Enter the command
    sudo nano /home/dwuser/.config/Digital\ Watchdog/ Digital\ Watchdog\ DW\ Spectrum\ Client.conf
  4. Add the line maxMp3FileDurationSec=<desiredNumberOfSeconds>
  5. Press  to exit.  You will be prompted to save the changes.
  6. Press , followed by  to write the changes.  Press  again.
  7. Once done, the config file will close.
     

Mac

  1. Run Terminal (you can use Spotlight to search for it).
  2. Enter the command:

    nano ~/Library/Preferences/com.digital-watchdog.Digital\ Watchdog\ DW\ Spectrum\ Client.plist

  3. At the end of the file, add the line:
    maxMp3FileDurationSec=<desiredNumberOfSeconds>

  4. Press  to exit.  You will be prompted to save your changes.
  5. Press  followed by .  You will then be shown the file name to write.  Press  again.
  6. You can now re-open the client software and apply your desired audio file.
