HTTPS Connections

DW Spectrum Servers and DW MEGApix cameras can be configured to communicate through an HTTPS connection for increased security.

This article will outline how to configure DW Spectrum to only accept connections with cameras using HTTPS, how to create a self-signed certificate in a MEGApix camera, and how to add a camera to your Server using the HTTPS address.

(Optional) Setting DW Spectrum for HTTPS Connections Only

Administrators have the option to only allow their DW Spectrum System to connect with cameras that are using HTTPS. When enabled, any cameras on the System that do not support HTTPS will be dropped and appear offline to DW Spectrum.

Using the DW Spectrum Client, open the Main Menu and navigate to the System Administration > Security menu.
Enable the checkbox “Use only HTTPS to connect to cameras”.
Save and Apply the changes.

DW MEGApix Camera HTTPS Setup

To configure the HTTPS security certificate:

Open the camera’s web client and open the Setup menu.
Navigate to Security > Certificate > Create Self-Signed Certificate.
Ensure that all fields in the certificate are completed; omitting any fields will cause the process to fail.

After creating the certificate, navigate to Security > HTTPS.

In the HTTPS Configuration menu, select the certificate that you just created and adjust the HTTPS connection policy according to user requirements.
