Analog PTZ Camera Presets & DW Spectrum

The UHDoC to IP Encoder is utilized to change incoming analog camera signals into a viewable IP signal. This allows users to integrate their analog camera system with DW Spectrum for viewing and recording purposes, rather than having to completely upgrade their security system to IP products only.

However, there are some limitations to using an IP encoder when integrating analog cameras into an IP system. For example, the encoder cannot process PTZ move requests with absolute coordinates. Instead, DW Spectrum administrators can adjust a setting using the DW Spectrum Client desktop application to allow the system to save preset profiles and coordinates in the camera itself and not the VMS.

This article will outline where to adjust the PTZ setting using the DW Spectrum Client to save preset profiles and coordinates in the camera.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • UHDoC to IP Encoder
    • DW-ENC4K16

Prerequisites

  • The encoder must be added to the DW Spectrum Server.
  • The analog PTZ camera must be connected to the DW-ENC4K16 encoder.

How to Use Native Camera Presets

To have DW Spectrum IPVMS save PTZ preset profiles and coordinates in the analog camera when using an encoder:

  1. Use the DW Spectrum Client to log into the DW Spectrum System as an Administrator or as the Owner.
  2. Right-click on the encoder as listed in the Resource Tree (left panel) and select “Camera Settings”.
  3. In the Camera Settings window, select the “Expert” tab.

In the PTZ settings, select “Use camera native presets” and click the Apply button.

  1. With the “Use camera native presets” setting selected, DW Spectrum IPVMS will save PTZ preset profiles and coordinates to the camera, so that when a PTZ preset is activated, DW Spectrum will only send the move request with a preset ID instead of using absolute coordinates.

Saving PTZ Presets in DW Spectrum

To save a PTZ position using DW Spectrum:

  1. Using the DW Spectrum Client, open the encoder in the Resource Tree (left panel) and open the analog PTZ camera for viewing.
  2. Right-click in the camera window and select PTZ > Save Current Position.

Use this method to create preset positions for the PTZ camera’s orientation. Assign a Hotkey to the preset to prompt the PTZ camera to move to the saved position using keystrokes.

If you want to edit a PTZ preset, use the PTZ > Manage menu to edit the name, hotkey, or to set a Home position for the camera.
