Camera Replacement Feature

The Camera Replacement feature can be used to replace an existing camera while allowing a new camera to continue using the original archive. This can be useful for situations where the old camera is broken, a hardware upgrade is needed, or if you just want to switch out camera models in general.

**NOTE:  If the original camera is reconnected, you will have the option to undo the replacement procedure.

Feature Note

Camera Replacement is only supported for single-channel cameras and can only be replaced by another single-channel camera on the same Server. This action can only be initiated by users with an Owner or Administrator access role.

This feature DOES NOT support the following device types:

  • Multi-sensor cameras
  • Virtual cameras
  • IP Speakers
  • NVRs
  • Unauthorized cameras (access to the camera required)
  • I/O Modules
  • Offline cameras that suddenly appeared after reindexing the archive

How to Replace Camera

To use the Replace Camera feature:

  1. Confirm that the old camera that is being replaced has been disconnected from the network and appears as “Offline” in the System. DO NOT delete the offline camera from the Resource Tree until the camera replacement is completed.
  2. Confirm that the replacement/new camera is connected to the network and appears as “Online” in the system.
  3. Right-click on the offline camera in the Resource Tree then select “Replace Camera” from the context menu.

  1. Select the replacement/new camera then click “Apply” to save the changes.

Transferring Camera Archive Data

Before the data transfer begins, a dialogue will display to confirm if the old camera’s data can be transferred for use with the new camera.

Not all data and settings can be transferred to the new camera either due to technical differences or technical limitations. For example, if the original camera is a PTZ model and the replacement camera is not, then the camera types too different and not all settings or data will be transferred.

**NOTE:  At the time of this writing, Motion Detection settings and 2-way Audio settings will not be transferred.

The following data and settings can be transferred:

  • Video archives
  • Camera names
  • User access rights
  • Analytics
  • Event rules
  • PTZ settings (both cameras must support PTZ functionality)
  • General camera settings
  • Recording schedule settings
  • Advanced camera settings
