-----------------------------------
StreamConnect is a plugin developed by Allied Telesis for DW Spectrum Professional. When installed on a DW Spectrum Server, StreamConnect enables DW Spectrum users to perform Allied Telesis PoE switch management tasks, like rebooting cameras and managing port power allocations, without requiring users to switch between DW Spectrum and a separate switch management tool.
This article covers the complete end-to-end process for integrating StreamConnect into a DW Spectrum Professional environment, from installation through configuration and ongoing switch management tasks.
NOTE: StreamConnect is not designed for use with switches configured in Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCS) mode.
Integration Requirements
Network Configuration
StreamConnect supports network configurations where the DW Spectrum Client communicates with the Allied Telesis switch through the DW Spectrum Server, maintaining network security by keeping camera and client networks separated.
NOTE: StreamConnect is compatible with any AlliedWare Plus™ PoE-capable Layer 2 or Layer 3 Allied Telesis switch.
Software Requirements
- AlliedWare Plus™ version 5.5.4 or newer on the Allied Telesis switch
- DW Spectrum Professional 6.0.1.40221 or newer

Part 2: Configuring ATI Switch and Cameras with StreamConnect
After installing StreamConnect on the DW Spectrum Server, you must configure the Allied Telesis switch and associate your surveillance cameras to switch ports through the ATI Switch Management interface in the DW Spectrum Client. Complete the following tasks in order:
- Task 1: Access ATI Switch Management
- Task 2: Add a New Allied Telesis Switch
- Task 3: Associate Cameras to Allied Telesis Switch Ports
NOTE: Before proceeding, ensure that cameras and the Allied Telesis switch are cabled and powered on.
NOTE: To manage the Allied Telesis switch (not just cameras), you must log in with an administrative account for the DW Spectrum Server. Non-administrative accounts can manage cameras but not switches.
NOTE: Allied Telesis recommends using PoE ports for surveillance cameras and non-PoE ports as uplink ports. Using a PoE port as an uplink port may cause the system to incorrectly detect a camera connected elsewhere in the network.
Task 1: Accessing ATI Switch Management
To access ATI Switch Management in the DW Spectrum Client:
- Launch the DW Spectrum Client application and log in as the Administrator or as a Power User.
- In the left Resource Tree panel, locate and double-click on “ATI Switch Management” in the Web Pages list.
NOTE: If multiple DW Spectrum Servers are listed, select the ATI Switch Management entry for the server that manages the surveillance cameras you want to work with.
-
If this is your first time accessing ATI Switch Management (or if you have been logged out), a login window will appear.
Log in using your DW Spectrum Server username and password.
- After logging in to the ATI Switch Management web page, the main page will appear, showing the “Select Switch” and “Select Camera” options.
Task 2: Adding a New Allied Telesis Switch
If the Allied Telesis switch has already been added to ATI Switch Management, click Select Switch, choose the switch from the drop-down list, and skip to Task 3.
To add a new Allied Telesis switch:
- In ATI Switch Management, click "Select Switch" → "Add New".
- In the New Switch Entry window, enter a unique name for the switch, then click Create.
NOTE: The switch you are adding must have surveillance cameras connected to it, and those cameras must be managed by the DW Spectrum Server.
- On the switch configuration page that appears, enter the switch's IP Address, Username, and Password, then click Apply.
- After clicking Apply and the link to the switch is established, the switch information and port status are displayed.
Task 3: Associating Cameras to Switch Ports
- With the switch added and its information displayed, scroll down to view the switch port table.
- Cameras can be assigned to switch ports automatically or manually.
- Automatic Assignment: Click “Auto-Assign Cameras”. StreamConnect detects cameras that are up and running and associates them with the appropriate switch ports. If cameras are not detected automatically, assign them manually.
-
Manual Assignment: To manually assign a camera to a port:
- In the port table, click “None” in the Camera column for the port you want to assign a camera to.
- Select the camera name from the drop-down list.
NOTE: If the camera does not appear in the list, select “Other”.
-
Select the camera name from the expanded list of all detected cameras.
Repeat for any additional cameras that need to be assigned to switch ports.
- After assigning all cameras, click "Apply".
- When the "Switch update processed." confirmation appears, click "OK".
The switch ports are now configured and ready to be managed from the DW Spectrum Client.
NOTE: You can also modify switch port settings (enable/disable ports, manage power allocations, or reassign cameras) during or after the camera association process. See "Managing Switch Ports" below.
Part 3: Managing Allied Telesis Switch Ports
Once StreamConnect is installed and cameras are associated with Allied Telesis switch ports, you can perform the following management tasks from the DW Spectrum Client without needing network administrator credentials:
- Reset a switch port (cycle power or data communication to reboot a camera)
- View the current power usage of a switch port
- Enable or disable switch ports
- Manage PoE power allocations for switch ports
- Reassign cameras to different switch ports
The Allied Telesis Switch Port Control page is the hub for port-level management. There are two ways to reach it.
Route A: Via ATI Switch Management (Select Camera)
To access the Switch Port Control page through ATI Switch Management:
- Launch the DW Spectrum Client and log in.
- In the left Resource Tree panel, double-click “ATI Switch Management”.

The Allied Telesis Switch Port Control page will open. Proceed to the appropriate task below.
NOTE: The Manage Switch Port button is only available after StreamConnect is installed and the camera has been associated with an Allied Telesis switch port.
Resetting a Switch Port (Rebooting a Camera)
The Switch Port Control page provides three reset options to cycle power or data on a port, effectively rebooting the connected camera:
- Cycle State – Disables data communication on the port, waits 30 seconds, then re-enables it.
- Cycle Power – Disables PoE on the port, waits 30 seconds, then re-enables it.
- Cycle Both – Executes both Cycle State and Cycle Power simultaneously.
To reset a switch port:
- On the Switch Port Control page (accessed via Route A or Route B above), click Cycle State, Cycle Power, or Cycle Both as needed.
- In the confirmation dialog, click OK.
- Wait for the process to complete. The port's data enabled and power enabled status will return to "Yes" once the cycle is finished. The current power draw for the selected port is displayed in the Current Power field on the Switch Port Control page.
Enabling or Disabling Ports, Managing Power Allocations, or Reassigning Cameras
These tasks are performed from the Manage Ports and Hardware view in ATI Switch Management:
- In ATI Switch Management, click “Select Switch” and choose your switch from the drop-down list.
- On the switch configuration page, click Manage Ports and Hardware.
- In the port table, make your desired changes:
- To enable or disable data communication on a port: click the checkbox in the Enabled column for the port.
- To enable or disable PoE on a port: click the checkbox in the PoE column for the port.
- To change the maximum power allocation for a port: click the value in the Max Power column and select an option from the drop-down list.
- To reassign cameras to switch ports: follow the manual assignment steps in Task 3 above.
- When finished, click Apply to save the changes.
