Video Export
The VMAX® IP Plus stores recorded video on its internal hard drive. When you need to save recorded footage for evidence, sharing, or archival purposes, you can export video directly to a USB flash drive.
This article will outline how to create a footage backup file directly from the VMAX® IP Plus using a USB flash drive.
Note: Use a USB flash drive formatted as FAT32. For best compatibility, use a drive that is 32 GB or smaller and does not contain other files. Kingston and SanDisk USB drives have been known to experience export issues.
Supported/Affected Devices:
- VMAX® IP Plus Series
- VMAX® IP G4
How to Export Footage
Exporting footage is a multi-step process and will require connecting a USB flash drive, USB-powered mouse, and a display monitor to the unit.
To create a video export file directly from the NVR:
- Connect a display monitor and USB-powered mouse to the VMAX® IP Plus. This peripheral hardware will allow you to view and navigate the NVR’s user interface.
Insert a USB flash drive into a free USB port. There is one USB port on the front panel and one USB port at the rear panel.
- Using the connected mouse, log in to the system as the Administrator or as a User that has Export permission (configured by the Administrator).
Note: If you have customized the login and have forgotten or do not know the password for the unit, you must submit a Password Reset Form for information on resetting the login. For more information, please read Password Recovery – VMAX IP Plus.
- After logging in, right-click in the viewing area with the mouse and select “Search”.
Select your preferred method and locate the footage that you wish to back up. Make sure that you can view the video playback at the NVR. If the target video cannot be viewed, then the video export may experience issues.
- After locating the target footage and confirming that you can view the playback directly at the NVR through the Playback mode, right-click within the viewing area and select “Export”.
The Export menu will display. Configure the export settings:
- Camera – Select the camera channels to include in the export. Choose All to export footage from every camera.
- From/To – specify the starting point and ending point by selecting the date and time of the target footage.
- Ensure that the USB flash drive is connected and perform the following:
- Device - click the “Scan” button. The NVR will attempt to recognize the connected USB flash drive.
- File Size – Click Estimate to calculate the approximate size of the export file. Enable Add Viewer to include the standalone MultiBackupPlayer, allowing the exported SSF file to be viewed on another computer without installing additional software.
- Password – [optional] If you would like to password protect the backup file, enable the “Use” option and click in the Password field to create a password. Anyone opening the SSF file will be prompted to enter this password.
- Once the above settings have been configured, click the “Start” button at the bottom of the window to begin the backup process.
Use the Progress bar at the bottom of the window to monitor the process. Once the backup process has been completed, you may close the menu and remove the USB flash drive.
Note: Backup files from the VMAX® IP Plus will be in .SSF format. To view the footage within the backup file, users can use the “MultiBackupPlayer.exe” file that is included when enabling the “Add Viewer” option. Alternatively, users may install and use the C3™ CMS software if the backup player was not included.
Alternative Export Method
Video footage can also be exported using the C3™ CMS desktop application. Please note that exporting recorded video is not supported through the recorder's web browser interface. However, C3 CMS allows you to view live video, search and play back recordings, and export footage directly to your PC or an external storage device.
